Sandwiches For Lunch |
|
Please contact Betsy Lafferty if you could provide sandwiches for our lunch program. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11 am to noon, sandwiches are given out at the rectory door. We are currently giving out around 30 sandwiches on those days. The sandwiches are white bread, a deli meat (like bologna) with a piece of cheese. Mustard goes between the meat and the cheese. Please wrap them in a type of Ziploc bag and put them in the wrapper of the bread loaf. Sandwiches should be dropped off the day you make them or freeze them and bring them in when you come to the weekend liturgy. Your efforts are really making a difference!

Sister Parish Note |
|
Greetings from warm, sunny San Salvador and special greetings from the folks in San Juan Sepalau, conveyed in a phone call today from Julio. I called him right back in Sepalau and we spoke at length. He and probably Adela will be coming to El Salvador Aug, 29-30-31, for the [meeting of Sister Parish International representatives], “Primero Dios.” I’ll catch up with them here. He said the community would like to do a chicken coop project, 300 hens and they will write it up and submit the proposal to Sr. Parish. This year’s visit began with tears amid the usual hugs – 3 male youngsters from the parish were killed recently – gang related. I knew all of them and their families very well, worked closely with Henri Josue, age 16 and in the 9th grade – 18 bullets. His friends were gang members. Henri and his older brother were karate champs. The others are William and Nelson. Prayers, please – a heavy summer. My friend Elvira Patricia Flores is this year’s miracle and I need to thank the parish for their long-standing prayers, as her name was in the bulletin. Her life is back on track! Hope all is well in Baltimore. Love to all – Patti Ann.

Liturgical Bits and Bites |
|
The Bread that is received. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal is quite clear: “It is most desirable that the faithful should receive the body of the Lord in hosts consecrated at the same Mass and should share in the cup when it is permitted. Communion is thus a clearer sign of sharing in the sacrifice that is actually being celebrated."

“All of us...make up one body in Christ,
and as different parts we are all joined to one” (Romans 12:4).
We who gather at Corpus Christi are called
into the Body of Christ. Alone we acknowledge our incompleteness;
together we experience our wholeness as a people of God. Our journey of
faith opens us up to opportunities for collaborative ministry, the
pursuit of justice, and the celebration of our diversity. Strengthened
by the Spirit, we accept our calling to be a church that affirms the
grace of our baptism into Christ’s death and resurrection. We
acknowledge that we share in the transformation of the world through
Eucharist, reconciliation, and prophetic witness to God’s justice and
peace.
In discernment of our particular calling as a
parish community, here and now, we take up these challenges:
to be good news for one another, for the communities to which
we are joined, near and far, and for the stranger in our midst, always
looking for opportunities to be hospitable and supportive;
to worship with prayer and purpose, celebrating our communion
in Christ through life-giving liturgy and collaborative ministry that
encourage full and active participation by all;
to nurture in one another a deep and responsive faith through
programs of education and spiritual formation that inspire Christian
witness at all stages of life;
to extend ourselves in service to each other, to the wider
community, and to the world through personal and communal acts of
justice and mercy;
to care for and cultivate all that God has entrusted to us by
the wise and generous use of our resources of time, talent, and
treasure.
This is our calling. With Christ, may we
become the bread that is broken and the wine that is poured. May we
live out our mission “not halfheartedly but with conscientiousness and
an eager spirit” (Romans 12: 11); so that, when we gather to remember,
we may truly call ourselves the Body of Christ, Corpus Christi.
